Homemade Hamburger Buns

I am SO glad my friend shared this Taste of Home recipe with me!  These buns are SO easy to make and taste absolutely AMAZING!  My husband raved about them for days and doesn't want store bought ones anymore.  We've even experimented with them a little bit and made them smaller for Cheeseburger Sliders, used them as dinner rolls...even toasted them with butter and jam for breakfast.

2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
3 to 3 1/2 cups flour

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In a large bowl dissolve yeast in warm water.  Add oil and sugar; let stand for 5 minutes.  Add the egg, salt, and enough flour to make a soft dough.
If you have a stand mixer, allow the mixer to knead the dough using the dough hook attachment; adding small amounts of flour as needed to keep it from being too sticky.  If you do not have a stand mixer, turn the dough onto a floured surface.
Whichever method you choose, knead until the dough is smooth and elastic; 3-5 minutes.  Do not let the dough rise.  Divide dough into 12 pieces (smaller if using for dinner rolls or slider buns), shape each into a ball, and place 3 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.  Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.  Bake 8-12 minutes or until golden brown.  Remove from pans to wire racks and allow to cool completely.
